PEFA KENYA CENTRAL OFFICE is a non-governmental organization (NGO) established to support empowered, informed and empowered citizens to participate in democratic and leadership processes in Kenya. It was registered as a Public Benefit Organization (PBO) in 2011 and has since been striving to create a space for public participation and discussion of electoral and democracy issues in the country. It is composed of a Board of Directors and a team of expertly trained field researchers. It is supported by a number of international and local partners and it runs a number of projects aimed at fostering progressive change in the electoral landscape in Kenya. PEFA KENYA CENTRAL OFFICE was established in 2011, as the result of intense dialogue between electoral and other stakeholders. It was set up to tackle the challenges of lack of public participation in electoral processes and to fill a gap between the official legal regulatory framework for elections and the real-time needs of a vibrant, active and participatory democracy.
