Qasr Al-Abed In Jordan: History,Facts, & Services
History:
The castle was originally built by the Ottoman Empire in the mid-fifteenth century and served as an important military base and fortress in the region. It is believed that the main section of the castle was completed between 1440 and 1515. During this period, several renovations took place, leading to a unique combination of Ottoman, Byzantine and Venetian influences. In the17th century, it became part of the Republic of Venice and was used as an important naval base. In 1687, the castle was captured by the Ottoman Empire once again during the Morean War, but would later be conquered by the Venetians in 1690. Following several further changes of rule, it was finally captured by the Greek forces in 1829. Qasr Al-Abed This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Jordan.

The castle is made up of three sections: the main citadel, the outer walls and a small annex. It is believed that over 5,000 stones were used in the original castle, but nearly a third of them were removed during Venetian restoration efforts in the 18th century. Today, the walls are still standing and the central courtyard remains largely intact. Qasr Al-Abed
