Madaba Archaeological Park In Jordan: History,Facts, & Services

Madaba Archaeological Park is a public archaeological park located near the city of Madaba in central Jordan. The park was established by Jordan’s Department of Antiquities in 2005 as a way of preserving the region’s archaeological remains and providing a unique site for tourists to explore. The park contains many important archaeological remains from the Roman and Byzantine periods, including a large mosaic map of the Holy Land from the 6th century CE. There are also several churches and other important sites from earlier periods. Visitors can explore the area and its many exhibits, visit educational workshops, and attend special events. History:

Madaba has a long and rich history that dates back to at least the 8th century BCE and is related to the Moabites. The area has seen a long period of occupation by different cultures, including the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, and Ottomans, who each left their mark on the city. In 1988, the archaeological site known as the Madaba Mosaic Map was discovered, which threw the spotlight on Madaba and prompted the modern restoration of the archaeological park. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Jordan.
