Shady Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church is a Seventh-day Adventist church located in Silver Spring, Maryland. It was founded in 1924 and has since grown to serve approximately 3,000 members. The church is distinctive due to its diverse congregation and the many cultures that are represented among its members. History Shady Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church was founded in 1924 under the leadership of Elder J.W. Morgan and a group of 14 African-American Seventh-day Adventist members. The members originally met in a one room country schoolhouse, and in 1925 they built a small frame church. The first pastor appointed was Elder J.J. Sweat. In 1942 the church was moved to its current location, 8601 Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring, Maryland. In the 50's additional buildings were added for classrooms, dining and fellowship areas. In 1985 the church added a youth center and renovated its sanctuary. In 2002 the church added a much larger daycare facility and multipurpose center. Facts - Shady Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church is a member of the South Atlantic Conference. - The church serves 3,000 members across the Greater Washington D.C. metropolitan area. - Since 2013, the church has been under the pastoral leadership of Executive Pastor James Frazier Jr. - The church’s mission is to encourage, equip and empower people of all backgrounds to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and reach their God-given potential in life. Services Shady Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church offers a variety of services to meet the needs of its congregation and the community. The church services include weekly worship and bible study services, prayer meetings, summer youth ministries and mission trips, health outreach services and a daycare center. The church also houses a food and clothing bank, providing help for those in need. In addition, the church offers a variety of community activities and events, such as seminars, conferences and retreats.
