Mount Carmel Apostolic Baptist Church was founded in 1919 by Rev. John T. Peacock and six other members. Peacock was an evangelist of the Union Branch Baptist Associations, and he led the group in creating the church. The church was originally known as Apostolic Tabernacle, but was later changed to its present name. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Jamaica.
