Church of the Irish Martyrs is a Roman Catholic church located in Dublin, Ireland. It was designed by the architect Joseph Platten and was built in the late 19th century. The church is dedicated to the memory of the Irish martyrs who died during the Irish Rebellion of 1798. History Church of the Irish Martyrs was built between 1892 and 1895, and was intended to serve as both a memorial to the martyrs of the 1798 rebellion and an expression of the strength of the Irish Catholic community in Dublin following the Irish Famine. At the time of construction, the building was one of the largest Catholic churches in Dublin and its architect, Joseph Platten, was one of the most famous of the time. Facts -The church is located on Marlborough Street, in Dublin’s northside. -The building is 70 metres long and 25 metres wide. -The façade is adorned with detailed carvings of Irish martyrs, and the building also features several stained glass windows, each depicting a martyr’s story. -The church was consecrated by the Archbishop of Dublin in 1895. Services The Church of the Irish Martyrs is currently in use as a Roman Catholic church, with regular services every Sunday. The church also hosts special services throughout the year as well as special events such as concerts. The church is open to visitors and welcomes people of all denominations.
