St. Muredach's Cathedral is a Roman Catholic Cathedral located in Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland. It is the seat of the Bishop of Killala. The present building dates back to the mid-nineteenth century and is built in the Gothic Revival style. It is one of the best churches in Ireland which you must visit.

History:

The earliest known evidence of a cathedral comes from an ancient manuscript from 1369. However, the structure of the original cathedral is unknown. Much of the structure was destroyed in 1653 when Oliver Cromwell's forces invaded Ballina. The cathedral was rebuilt between 1845 and 1854, with only the tower and part of the transepts remaining from the previous structure. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Ireland.
