Brief History:
Al-Nasir Mosque is located in the city of Najaf, Iraq and is one of the prominent shrines of Shia Muslims. The mosque was originally built in the 10th century by a vizier of the Buwayhid dynasty by the name of Al-Nasir Al-Abbas. The original mosque was destroyed by Mongol invaders in 1258 and was later rebuilt in 1283 by Al-Nasir’s son and successor, Al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Ali. Al-Nasir Mosque underwent major renovations in the 19th and 20th centuries that included the addition of a golden dome, two minarets, and several annexes, making it one of the largest and most impressive mosques in Iraq. The present-day Al-Nasir Mosque is home to the shrine of Al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Ali and is a well-known pilgrimage site for Shia Muslims from all over the world. Visiting Hours:
Al-Nasir Mosque is open to visitors from 8 am to 8 pm every day of the week. There is no admission fee. The mosque is closed for prayers.
