Architecture:
The Al-Imam Hassan Al-Askari Mosque is a Shia mosque located in Fallujah, Iraq. Built in 11th century, during the Abbasid period, the structure is popular among locals for its architectural and historical significance. The mosque is an architectural marvel with several features and ornate elements. It measures 71.5 by 46 meters with walls ranging from 2.6 to 7 meters high. The main entrance is a grandiose 10-meter wooden gate. Inside the mosque, the main prayer hall with a rectangular floor is covered with a metal cupola on seven pillars. There are also two iwans (pillared halls) on the north and east sides. The roof is constructed with dark bricks and its interior is richly decorated with golden inscriptions and ornate details. The mosque also features a 45-meter-high watch-tower, 12-meter-high minarets and several libraries. In recent times, the mosque was severely damaged during the war between the US-led coalition and insurgents in Iraq. However, in 2010, the Iraqi government initiated a renovation project to restore the mosque's original look and bring back its former glory. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
