Yashodharman’s pillar of Victory In India: History,Facts, & Services
Overview:
dharman's Pillar of Victory is a richly decorated pillar, erected to commemorate the victory of Maitrak king Yashodharman over Huna king Mihirakula in 528 AD.The pillar is situated in Ambah, near Morena in Madhya Pradesh and is 35 feet tall, with a square base and is made from the red sandstone of the region.The pillar is an important archaeological site, located inside the Gwalior Fort. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The pillar of victory is carved with sculptures of Hindu deities, notably Devi Ganga flanked by brahminy bull, Nandi and decorated with depictions of the battle, including war elephants and chariots.The most striking feature of the pillar is the unique basal part, which has four faces with the images of river goddesses Ganga and Yamuna located on two sides and the sun and moon on the other two sides.
