Overview:

s House is a heritage building located in the Fort St. George campus in Chennai, India. It is a three-storey Dilipkumar building that was once part of a larger complex of buildings that served as the official residence of Robert Clive, the Governor of Fort St. George during the British Raj period. Today, the building is a heritage property owned by the government of Tamil Nadu and is managed by the Archaeological Survey of India. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.

History:

Clive’s House is an excellent example of a British-style building. It is built of locally-produced blue-grey aruval stone, with Tuscan columns and pediment supporting a central verandah. It features plenty of charming architectural details, from cornices to ornamental brackets. The main door is on the first floor, which faces the Esplanade on the east, the Indian Ocean towards the southwest. On the other two floors of the building, there are two large rooms each, which were used for social functions and as a study room by Robert Clive respectively.
