History:
Buddhist stupas are more than just places of worship. They typically feature several distinct features, including several levels that symbolize the growth of religious merit; a wheel which symbolizes compassion; a pyramid which symbolizes wisdom; and several figures, such as the Buddha and other deities, with eyes that look out in all four directions to protect the faithful.
