Balasubramanya Temple, Kannanur is located in the Kannanur village in Tamil Nadu, India. It is an ancient temple which was constructed during the time of the Pallavas in the seventh century. The temple is dedicated to Lord Balasubramanya and is one of the prominent shrines in Tamil Nadu. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The highlight of the temple is the image of the garuda which is worshipped here. The shrine is famous for its beautiful architecture which includes a gopuram, stone mandapam, separate shrines and a sacred pond. 1. The image of the Lord Balasubrahmanya is said to have been hidden in a tank and was rescued by people of the village during the Muslim invasion. 2.
