Templo Aposento Alto In Honduras: History,Facts, & Services

, Templo Aposento Alto is one of Honduras' most famous historical sites and is located in the northern part of the country, near the border with Guatemala. The ruins date back to the sixth century AD, making it one of the oldest known examples of Mayan architecture in Central America. It is believed that Templo Aposento Alto was once the centre of an important commercial district and even served as the ceremonial capital of the region for some time. The ruins of Templo Aposento Alto are made up of several structures, including two large plazas which measure up to 200 metres in length each. Much of the ruins are still covered with thick jungle and have been untouched for centuries. Templo Aposento Alto is thought to have been abandoned by the end of the sixth century AD, and the ruins were likely only rediscovered in the late 1800s. The site now serves as an important historical site and has been designated a National Park since 1997. It is open to tourists who want to explore the ruins on their own or who book guided tours of the site.
