Centro Cristiano Internacional is a faith-based charity organization located in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Founded in 1997 by Dr. José Rodriguez de la Rúa and his wife, Silvia de la Rúa, the organization works to help Hondurans from all political and religious backgrounds to achieve a better life and overcome social, economic and spiritual disadvantage. Its primary activities are focused on health, education, economic and spiritual development. Centro Cristiano has three main objectives: empowering Honduran families through education, transforming communities through sustainable development, and creating spiritual communities through a network of churches in areas of great need. Centro Cristiano runs many programs, including free medical care for the uninsured, free education and social services for over 8,000 people, micro-enterprise programs for women to start small businesses, programs for youth development, and much more. The organization’s main office is located in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, but is also active in the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Haiti. Centro Cristiano is supported by donations from individuals, corporations, and government entities, as well as through volunteer work from hundreds of professionals from around the world. The organization has been recognized by several international awards, including the World Bank Institute's 2009 Global Development award.
