The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception In Honduras is the main Catholic church in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. It is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tegucigalpa, and the seat of the archbishop and the Bishop of the Diocese of Tegucigalpa. Built in the 18th century, it was originally designed by the architect Simon Vazquez in 1768. Since then, the cathedral has been enlarged and renovated several times over the years. It is an impressive example of religious architecture, featuring a centrally-placed grand altar with intricate sculpted designs along its sides and several side aisles. The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception was commissioned in 1768 by Archbishop Vasquez to be the main Catholic church in Tegucigalpa. It was built on the site of a former colonnade church dedicated to Santa Cruz, which dates back to the 16th century. In 1856, the original building was modified and extended to incorporate additional works of art and architecture. In 1954, the cathedral underwent a major renovation, which included the addition of a large central dome. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Honduras.
