The church was founded in 1926 by Pastor Edmond Henry a Trinidadian evangelist. He carried out evangelical crusades in Guyana and the Caribbean. After much success, he decided to start a church in Guyana. In 1926, the first meeting of the church was held in Lusignan, a suburb of Georgetown.
