The Guyana Congregation Union (GCU) is an inter-denominational Christian fellowship of churches and religious organizations with a focus on service and mission. Founded in 1921, the GCU serves primarily the Christian population of Guyana, and it is the church body of record for more than 80 denominations, represented by over 200 churches, Religious orders and inter-church Organizations. The GCU is organized into five regions, each with its own bishop, representative council and other ministries. The mission of the GCU is to provide meaningful worship, Christian education, spiritual growth, and outreach services to its members. The organization also serves as a voice in the larger Christian community, promoting unity and cooperation between churches in Guyana and around the world. GCU's activities focus on three core values: service, justice, and mission. GCU's history dates back to 1921, when four denominations came together for the formation of the Guyana Congregation Union. From the four original denominations, the GCU has since grown to include a wide variety of churches, religious orders, and inter-church organizations, as well as a spectrum of Christian beliefs and practices. The GCU’s main activities include providing worship services and ministry programs, helping to build bridges between churches, providing guidance and assistance to churches, and participating in social action and outreach efforts. In addition, the GCU strives to foster an environment of dialogue among churches on topics of justice, racial and intercultural issues, and social responsibility. With its strong promotion of intercultural, racial, and reconciliation initiatives, the GCU has become a significant figure in promoting ecumenical unity.
