The worship of Mother Goddess Durga at the Durga Mandir in Canal Number Two Polder, West Bank Demerara, Guyana usually begins with the morning ‘Arati’ where oil wicks are lit and waved before an image of the Goddess. This is followed by offering of fruits, flowers and incense. Then, the priest recites hymns from the Hindu scriptures, and devotees chant in unison.
