Shri Swaminarayan Mandir - Porbandar is one of the oldest mandirs dedicated to Lord Shri Swaminarayan. It was established in 1828 by Shankaracharya Swami Purushottam Bharati, under the guidance of Acharya Baphuji Shastri, a great scholar, the disciple of Lord Swaminarayan, and his spiritual successor, Acharya Bhakti Yagnapurushdas. The swaminarayan temple of Porbandar was built by him along with his two uterine brothers Divyaprakash and Hariprakash. It is believed that due to the immense devotion of the three brothers and the regular prayers offered at the temple, Lord Swaminarayan blessed Porbandar with peace and prosperity. : The worship methods at Shri Swaminarayan Mandir - Porbandar in Gujarat are rooted in the traditional Hindu practices of puja (ritual prayer) as prescribed by the teachings of Lord Swaminarayan. Generally, three Aartis (devotional songs sung in praise of the deity) are held each day. Bhajans (devotional songs) are sung in praise of Lord Swaminarayan and his aspects.
