History:

Cologne Philharmonic is one of the oldest orchestras in Germany and one of the most renowned in the world. It was founded in 1989 and is based in the German city of Cologne. The symphony orchestra had its humble beginnings in the city’s Gürzenich concerts, founded in 1798 by music-loving citizens. The first concertmaster was Franz de Luca, who was offering a series of concerts with a concert choir. The Cologne Philharmonic has been performing in the Gürzenich for over 200 years. Over the years, the orchestra has enjoyed many illustrious chief conductors, including Ferdinand Hiller and Siegfried Wagner. In the 1970s, the orchestra began a series of highly successful international tours, taking the orchestra to some of the world’s most prestigious symphonic halls and concert halls such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
