History:

Bristol Lake Baptist Church was organized on November 9, 1958, as a mission of the Decatur First Baptist Church. The church adopted a church covenant and elected their first deacons. The church was dedicated on May 10, 1959 and had 50 charter members. For nine years, services were held in the gym of a nearby apartment complex while the church struggled to purchase a building of their own. Finally, in 1968, the church purchased property on Lavista Road and had its first service in their new facility on May 2, 1971. The church grew significantly through the 1970s and 1980s and in 1995 purchased additional property on Everton Drive and changed its name to Briarlake Baptist to better reflect its proximity to Briarlake Forest and Briarlake Elementary. The Briarlake Baptist Church of Decatur, Georgia is an independent Baptist church that still serves the Decatur area in worship, Bible study and fellowship.
