History:

begun in 1922 when a group of people were determined to seek the Presence of the Lord and worship in accordance with the principles and teachings of the Pentecostal faith. In 1925, Bishop T. G. Mitchell and several others built a small tabernacle on the north side of Blackville, Georgia. The tabernacle was an open-air structure; however, it was the place where sinners were saved and the baptized filled with the Holy Ghost. The Church of God from the beginning stressed that a relationship exists between God and man that the gifts of the Holy Ghost should be desired and that the Bible was the divine revelation. The Church of God doctrine is one that insists on a personal relationship with God that is based on faith and repentance. As the church grew, in 1928, the local church was dedicated and named St. John Church of God in Blackville, Georgia. Subsequently, the church was renamed the Blackville Church of God.
