History:
The church was built on the grounds of Vuokki Castle, which was destroyed in a great fire in 1729. Vuokki Castle had provided a safe haven for the people of Nokia during the years of Swedish reign. After the fire, the people of Nokia, who had been displaced from the area, decided to build a new church to remember those who had perished in the fire and serve as the cultural center for their community. Vuokki Church This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Finland.
