Founded in 2009, the congregation comprises approximately 150 members. History:

The precursor to the Vapaakirkkoseurakunta existed in Tampere for many years. It was formed in 1908 as the Suomen evankelisluterilainen seurakunta (Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Congregation). This was followed in 1991 by a split within the original church, with some members of the congregation founding the Yhteysseurakunta (Congregation of Connection). The founders of this group sought to integrate more contemporary forms of worship, such as more modern music, more meaningful dialogue, and to open up the church to a more diverse congregation.
