History:

Kuopio Cathedral was founded in 1762 and was originally designed in the Baroque style. The current building was designed in a Neoclassical style by architect Carl Engel and completed in 1821. After a fire in the early 1830s, renovation work was undertaken and the interior was changed to a neo-romantic style in the 1870s. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Finland.
