The Orthodox Church in Eritrea is a local Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, one of the Oriental Orthodox Churches, founded in 1948. It is an autonomous Church within the communion of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and acknowledges its unique spiritual bond to the Patriarchate of Alexandria. It is one of the most ancient churches which traces its theology and Christology to the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea of 325 AD, and it upholds its tradition in Apostolic Succession.
