Kidane Mihret Laelay Adi Orthodox Chuarch is one of the oldest churches in Eritrea, dating back to the 11th century AD. It is located on the western side of the port of Massawa in Eritrea. The church is believed to be the oldest church in East Africa. The church is also known as Nefas Ganna Kidanemihret or the Inkwell of Kidanemihret due to its bright colored windows which light up the night sky with a dazzling display. The church has a mix of Catholic and Orthodox influences. It has three domes, with a bell tower, low walls, and a brightly colored roof. The inside of the church is decorated with Georgian gold frescos, illustrating biblical stories. The church also houses the relics of St. Tekle Haymanot, a 4th century Christian saint who was persecuted by the Romans for his faith. The church also holds Orthodox church services and offers an assortment of Christian teachings and services.
