Genbeba Eritrean orthodox church In Eritrea: History,Facts, & Services
Genbeba Eritrean Orthodox Church is the first Eritrean Orthodox Church. It was built in 1895 in the city of Asmara. The architectural style of the building reflects the influence of the ancient Coptic churches of Egypt. The church houses some of the most precious and valuable religious artifacts from the Eritrean Orthodox Church, including holy books, ancient icons, and crosses. It also offers weekly services in Amharic and Tigrinya, as well as special celebrations throughout the year. Its services are mainly focused around the Orthodox faith, but it also hosts services for non-Orthodox Christians. After years of war, the church was restored in 2006 and open to all regardless of their faith.
