Cathedral Our Lady of the Rosary was first established in 1880 as part of the Italian Mission at Asmara. During the 1940s, it was completely rebuilt by Father Fiacchini, a famous Italian Friar Minor. In 1950, the Cathedral was consecrated by Archbishop M. Perazzoli. Today, the Cathedral serves as the national operation center of the Catholic Church in Eritrea.
