History:
St Thomas’s was organized in the fall of 1817 by an Episcopal missionary. The church congregation of free and enslaved African Americans was composed of slaveholders, brewers, and artisans. Until 1959, the church was racially segregated and included both a “white” and an “old colored” congregation. St Thomas’s Church This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in England.

The original building of St Thomas’s Church was destroyed by the earthquake of 1886 and subsequently rebuilt in 1892. It is the oldest surviving church building in Charleston and its original cornerstone was laid in 1854. The tower of St Thomas’s Church was destroyed in the fire of 1861 and rebuilt in 1890. Services:
Each Sunday services are held at St Thomas’s Church. Regular parish services occur at 8:00am, 11:00am, and 6:00pm. Services are preceded by pre-service prayer in the back of the upper church at 7:30am, 10:30am, and 5:15pm. All services are welcoming and prayer and scripture readings are held in both English and Spanish. Special services and outreach activities throughout the year allow the parish to reach out to more members of the community.This beautiful church in England has made a lot of significance in the past.
