It is a Grade II listed building, constructed mainly in 1844 but with some earlier materials. The church was built as the centrepiece of a new residential development and was designed by local architect John Hargreaves. It is one of the best churches in England which you must visit.

History:

St Mark's Church was opened as a daughter church of Holy Trinity Church in 1845. It was built to serve the growing population of Swindon, which had experienced a rapid expansion after the building of the Great Western Railway Works. Over the years, the church has undergone several major changes and restorations, and in the 1970s it was linked with the nearby Church of the Immaculate Conception. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in England.
