History:
The church stands on land which has been at the centre of Colchester's religious life since the 7th century. It is believed that the first building on the site was built in the 8th century by St Cedd, Bishop of the East Saxons. The tower of the current church was begun in the 12th century and the nave dates back to the 14th century. The church is named after St Botolph, a patron saint of travelers who had a shrine at the site during medieval times.
