The Sokollu Mehmet Pasha Mosque is a 16th century Ottoman mosque located in Istanbul. It was constructed between 1571-1572 on the orders of Sokollu Mehmet Pasha, the Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire. The mosque was created in a traditional Islamic architectural design with pointed domes, an extended courtyard and a spiral porch with an exterior monumental stone staircase. The external façade consists of a main entrance flanked by two small domes and is faced with stone blocks on the outside walls. The central portion of the mosque is the courtyard, divided into four courtyard sections by arcades from the four sides. The central fountain and the ablution area are located in the center of the courtyard. Inside the building, the prayer hall consists of a spectacular octagonal dome on a rectangular base. The walls of the mosque are decorated with Iznik tiles and the jambs of the windows, the vaults and arches are ornamented with calligraphic designs. The mosque also contains two minarets and is surrounded by a wall with a stone portal. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
