History:

Gidan Makama was founded in Kano State, Nigeria by Haruna Gyashua in 14th century. Its first king was Sarki Gyashua. Gidan Makama was an important city in the old Hausa State. It played a major role in the development of trade and finance and was considered a major center of Islamic culture and learning. The city was also home to a number of famous scholars including Aliyu Babba Belgore and Ibrahim Yawu, who wrote the famous book of Hausa poems, and Malam Dikko, who wrote a collection of Hausa proverbs.
