Discover - Torre Piezometrica Roma EUR - Fact, History and Travel Information
Torre Piezometrica Roma EUR is a 75 meter-high tower (246 feet), located in the EUR area in Rome, Italy. The tower takes its name from the Latin word “piezometer” which refers to an instrument used to measure pressure in a given system. The tower was designed by the Italian architect Aldo Loris Rossi and built in the 1950s as part of a major hydrogeological research project. The tower consists of a five-storey base on a rectangular plan, with a narrow cylinder on top, connected to a double helix staircase inside.
The Torre Piezometrica Roma EUR was built to study the underground water of the city. By pumping water from deep underground, the tower was able to measure the pressure from these depths. The data collected from the tower has become an invaluable tool in urban engineering and planning activities in recent years, helping to improve water resources management in the city.
The Torre Piezometrica Roma EUR is an important landmark and is included in the itineraries of many guided tours of the city. Nowadays, the tower is used mainly for educational and cultural purposes and is also open to visitors who wish to learn more about the history of the area and the water resources of Rome.
