Santa Maria della Visitazione e San Francesco di Sales was built as part of an effort to bring churches and public buildings constructed during the 19th century, in locations around ancient Rome, back in line with the city’s artistic traditions. The church was purposely designed to enclose the ancient parish and main altar within the main building’s outer walls, and was dedicated to both the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, and to Saint Francis de Sales. It boasts works of art, including paintings and sculptures, by eminent Italian artists such as Francesco Paolo Michetti, Pelagio Palagi and Domenico Morelli.
