The Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church began in 1817 with the formation of a Society of Free African Americans. These individuals strived to create a place of safety and fellowship, and met in the home of Seth Linton, a freeborn African American. In 1820, the church was officially organized and named the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Bethel AME Church This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Denmark.
