Gloucester Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral in Gloucester, England. It originated in the foundation of a Saxon nunnery. The building was substantially completed in 1541 and then remodelled in the late 19th century. It is the burial site of King Edward II as well as a venue for visiting Royalty. History:

The abbey associated with Gloucester was founded in the late 7th century by Osric, a Mercian nobleman. The original Saxon church was destroyed in 1094 and the construction of a Norman church began in 1102. It was substantially completed by 1175 and consecrated in 1216. The abbey was disbanded in 1539 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries but its transition into a cathedral was completed by 1541. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in England.

Gloucester Cathedral is the burial site of King Edward II as well as the tombs of Robert Curthose and Robert of Normandy, both sons of William the Conqueror. The cathedral contains a number of monuments and stained glass windows, including the window known as the “Gloucester Candles”.
