Santiago Apostol Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in Ponferrada, Spain. It is dedicated to St. James the Great, a patron of Spain and Santiago de Compostela. The original structure, dating back to the 12th century, was built as an extension of the Camino de Santiago, or Way of Saint James. The Cathedral has seen various modifications over the centuries and currently serves as the seat of the Bishop of the Diocese of León. History:

 The construction of the cathedral began in 1080. It was built in Romanesque style, characterized by a simple and functional design, and was completed in the early 13th century. In 1474, the west facade underwent a Gothic period renovation, most likely carried out by Juan de Alava. Throughout the centuries, the cathedral underwent numerous renovations. In 2007, the diocese announced plans to restore and strengthen the structure, which included seismic retrofitting. The restoration was completed in 2014.
