It is an extension of the African Methodist Episcopal Church and was designed to reach out to the Spanish speaking population of the United States. Iglesia Nueva Bethel I, AME was founded in 2001 by the Reverends William Rance and Adelfina Prieto-Rance. The Church operates under the umbrella of the African Methodist Episcopal Church and is a part of the Social Action Commission where they partner with leaders in the surrounding communities to address social justice issues. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Dominican Republic.
