Catedral San Pedro Apóstol is a Roman Catholic church located in Lima, Peru. It is the seat of the archdiocese of Lima, and the oldest permanently standing church in the country. Construction began in 1564 and it was fully completed in 1625.

History:
Catedral San Pedro Apóstol was founded by Franciscan Friar Tomás de San Martín, who was assigned to Lima by the Spanish Crown in 1551. San Martín envisioned a new cathedral that could reflect the riches of the growing Lima. He proposed plans to the city council and began construction in 1564. The original structure was made of wood and adobe and was eventually supplanted by a stone building with three naves. The main altar was completed in 1624 with a canopy made of silver gilt. The cathedral was declared the Metropolitan Church of Lima in 1704, and was raised to the level of Minor Basilica in 1960. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Dominican Republic.
