Lago Dudu is located in the province of Cabrera, Dominican Republic, in the municipality of Sabana Grande de Palenque. During the colonial period, the lake was known as Lago Real. The lake then became known as Lago Dudu in 1805, during the Haitian Revolution, when a cattleman named Emilio founded El Real de Dudu (The Domain of Dudo). He, along with other freed slaves, set up a ranch in the region and took up cattle farming. This period marked the beginning of the practice of lago fisherman.
