The mosque has an octagonal plan and a large central dome supported by four muqarnas arches. The walls of the mosque are made of brick and stone and decorated with colored tiles, carved stone, stucco, muqarnas, and inscriptions. The windows of the mosque are tall and have a variety of geometric designs. The medrese of Yakutiye Medrese Mosque was the first Islamic educational institution in Erzurum and served as an Islamic seminary until the early 20th century. It is a long, two-storied structure with a central dome. Inside the medrese are fourteen rooms with a corridor used as a student living and study space.
