Vejlby Church is an Evangelical Lutheran church in the Vejlby parish in Aarhus, Denmark. The current church building was built in a Romanesque style in 1172 and has been altered several times since then. It features a red brick-clad tower, a distinct round chancel, and a sacristy from 1564.
Vejlby Church History
The first church on the site of the current Vejlby Church was likely built sometime around 1130, although records do not exist for the construction. The first written record of the church was found in 1314, showing that it had been dedicated to St. Christopher and St. John the Baptist. In the years following, many alterations were made to the structure, including rebuilding it as a Romanesque church in 1172 and adding a turret and sacristy in 1564.
