The originally wooden church at Torup was built when King Harald Bluetooth donated the land and established the site as a church in 983. In 1042, the wooden church was replaced with the present stone building which stands today. The church underwent multiple renovations, one of which was conducted in the late fifteen century. In the early 1700s, extensive renovations took place, including the construction of a Lutheran tower, a Baroque porch, and the addition of several stained glass windows. The exterior of the church is an outstanding example of Romanesque architecture and is composed of fieldstones. Its most notable feature is the porch with its four columns. The structure has an impressive arched portico and an ornate rosette decoration embedded in the tympanum. Inside the church is a Baroque styled wooden pulpit and two tombstones that are significant artifacts. One is the marble tombstone of Christian I and the other, a granite one, of Birgitte Friis.
