The Temple of Sobek and Haroeris in Kom Ombo, Egypt, was built in the 2nd century BC and is one of the most well-preserved temples from this era in the country. The temple was dedicated to two gods, Sobek and Haroeris (or Horus the Elder), who were worshipped as one. The temple was built on a hill overlooking the Nile River and offers spectacular views of the river and the desert. It was part of the cult center for the cult of Crocodilopolis, the site of an annual festival honoring the crocodile god, Sobek. The temple also features an area known as the “birth room”, where pilgrims could pray and make offerings to the gods. The temple is now open to visitors, who can explore its many chambers and learn about the incredible history of this important site.
