St. Michael Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church Cologn is a church located in the city of Cologne, Germany. It is the largest Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church in Europe and the first of its kind in Germany. The congregation was founded in 1988 by Reverend Getachew Akalu, who came to Germany as a refugee fleeing the Ethiopian Civil War in 1974. The Church’s main worship services are held in Ge’ez, a classical Ethiopian language that has been used as a liturgical language since the 4th century AD. The Church also provides social and spiritual support for the African community in Cologne and the surrounding area. It offers a variety of services and activities such as bible study, pastoral counselling, marriage ceremonies, lectures, seminars, retreats, and more, to offer spiritual guidance and support for all those seeking it. The Church is also active in charitable activities like providing financial and material assistance to prisoners, POWs, victims of natural disasters, and refugees.
