Selimiye Mosque is an Ottoman imperial mosque located in the city of Tekirdağ, Turkey. It was built between 1568 and 1575, during the reign of Sultan Selim II, after whom it was named. The mosque was designed by Mimar Sinan, the most renowned Muslim architect of the Ottoman Empire. The mosque has a large complex that has five domes, four minarets, and two semicircular arcades. It is one of the most prominent examples of Ottoman imperial architecture, with its intricate tile decoration and calligraphic inscriptions. The central dome stands 45 meters high, the first two minarets have a height of 45 meters, while the other two minarets are more than 60 meters in height. The central dome is supported by four large ribs, each featuring four smaller windows that light up the interior space. The exterior walls are paneled with turquoise blue tiles and marble reliefs. The interior is also decorated with marble and Turkish tiles. The mihrab (the direction of prayer) is made of marble, while the minbar (the pulpit of the mosque) is adorned with intricate Kütahya tiles.
