Saqqara Necropolis is the world's oldest and most important necropolis located west of the Nile River in Egypt. It is located approximately 30 km (19 mi) southwest of Cairo. Dating back to the Old Kingdom of Egypt (2686–2134 BC), Saqqara was once a burial ground for kings and elites of the ancient Egyptian civilization. The site contains hundreds of tombs and monuments, several of which are well-preserved, including the renowned Step Pyramid of Djoser. This pyramid is the world's oldest major stone structure and is considered the foundational step in the development of pyramid architecture in Egypt. The site also includes other tombs, temples, and carvings that provide insights into the beliefs and customs of the ancient Egyptians. The Saqqara Necropolis is officially listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
